—Captain to Punch in Garu in Jail |
The Pirates appear in Netflix's Pucca: Love Recipe. As secondary antagonists, their main goal is to look for treasure. Though they are a group of four (not including the bird), their fourth member only worked with them in one episode. The fourth member's other episode was spent mostly in jail, while his crew could only talk to him outside of the jail. They could be the thought of supporting antagonists, as they appear in each different episode that feature them in them, making them both secondary and supporting antagonists.
Biography[]
The pirates, although they have a bounty, are not considered to be a threat by Officer Bruce. When he told Pucca about them, they were really "idiots".
The pirates first appear as the main characters in Treasure Hunt. The crew consists of Captain, Bogo, Punch and his pet bird. Their fourth member, Monk, does not appear with them physically, instead being only shown on a wanted poster. They arrive at Sooga Island, believing there to be treasure somewhere on the island. However, the group is shown to be not very competent, as they lost their map before arriving.
Bogo claims to know the map by heart, but the trio ends up walking in circles. During this, they run into the Sooga Bird. The bird leads them to what they think the treasure is buried under, the largest tree. The tree is the home to Tobe and his ninja gang. Around the time, Garu, stumbles along both groups. Each group thinks the other is an enemy and attack, only for the Sooga Bird to steal the Captain's belt and cause his pants to fall down. Both groups are taken down mostly due to Pucca's interference.
Bogo, seeing a map Tobe had planned for Garu, believes it's a treasure map. That leads them to the Goh-Rong Restaurant, but the group doesn't get time to explore this upon seeing Pucca and Garu. The trio stupidly make a run for it, for no real reason. Though Bogo's idea might not have been totally off. After departing, Dada and Dandy are seen digging a hole for their cooking pot. Dada explains to Dandy, its to keep their sauce underground to ripen. While digging they stumble upon a gold nugget. But the two merely see it as a rock and toss it aside.
The group would appear again (still without Monk) in Finding Won as the main antagonists, where Bogo sees Won lay a golden egg. The group believes that Won is their treasure and kidnap her from Ching. Despite their (aggressive) efforts to get Won to lay golden eggs, Won is clearly upset for being taken and instead lays regular eggs. They decide to take Won off the island and keep her, but the trio quickly gets lost.
Ching, now with an eagle as an aid, soon finds them. A brawl starts, but Ching is left weakened after her eagle apparently falls in love with Punch's pet bird and chases after it. Bogo and the Captain attempt to leave, only to be halted by Abyo, Pucca, and Garu. Bogo tries to fight Abyo, but loses due to his own stupidity, hitting himself with Abyo's weapon.
Garu quickly retrieves Won back from the Captain. When he attempts to flee with Won's eggs, he sees they’re just regular eggs with gold-colored shells. Not a minute later, Pucca comes back with the eagle Ching had and finishes off the Captain, beating him up, and launching him into the air, with his pants down again like last time. With the group defeated, the gang goes home. Again, once the pirates are gone, it is revealed that Won can lay actual golden eggs, though it goes unnoticed by the friends.
The Captain reappears as a minor character in Hip-Hip Hooray! where he apparently is trying to steal a sweet potato because he was hungry. Bruce tries to stop him, but the sweet potato breaks in half causing both him and Bruce to fall over. And once again, Monk is absent. And somehow, Bogo and Punch didn't appear with him.
The group appears with Bruce in Soozilla in a flashback, still with Monk being absent, in the cell where they were startled by when Soozilla's eye peeking through the station.
Monk finally makes his appearance and somewhat return to the group in Garu in Jail. When Garu wants peace from Pucca, Abyo suggests putting him in a jail cell. The idea is good at first until he stumbles upon Monk. Monk, who's as foolish as the rest of the crew, gets Garu to help him get some food. However, its a badly rotten and been on the floor but he eats it causing him stomach problems later. Its also later revealed Monk, accidentally got separated. While he was seasick, he got surprised by a rat, which scared him and he comically jumps off the boat.
However, Monk has no problems with jail, as he sees it as a cozy place to sleep. Its then his stomach bothers him and the pirates plead to Garu's friends to help him before he has an accident in the cell. The rest of the episode consists of Pucca, Abyo, and Ching looking for Bruce. Due to the cells' key getting broken. Garu and the crew spend most of it suffering from Monk's flatulence. Though Bruce gets back in time to open the cell; which Garu leaves quickly (with Pucca trailing behind). It comes a little too late as Monk, ends up going in the cell. Causing the rest of both groups to run in disgust.
The Captain makes a minor role in The Suspicious Games where he participated in a hot dog eating competition, but was presumably eliminated.
They'd appear again in episode Villains, Unite!, but again no Monk. Fyah proposes Tobe's ninjas and the pirates work together to steal what they allege to be a treasure. But Fyah himself believes it’s just something to get an edge of the restaurant. However, Tobe double crosses both Fyah and the pirates. But Tobe would find the "treasure" was just rotten miso paste, that the Chefs had planned to throw away.
This time the whole group would appear in Winter in Sooga Island (Captain, Bogo, Punch, and Monk) once again as the main antagonists. Pucca and the group would chase after them when they stole Santa's presents to keep for themselves. Ironically afterwards, Pucca would go after them again. While they believed she had returned to hurt them, it’s shown she found a present box meant for the whole pirate crew.
Their last appearance as the main antagonists is in Ring Ring the Cow, Captain and Punch, where they apparently stole cattle to either sell or use as meat to feed themselves. But since it was a dream it most likely didn't happen. Though again, Monk was not present with them. Bogo also didn't appear with them in this episode.

Trivia[]
- They may be a replacement for the Vagabond Ninja Clan from the Jetix series.
- Despite being the secondary antagonists of Pucca: Love Recipe, they were never seen interacting with or meeting Dong King.
- It is possible that they and Dong King have separate goals of going to Goh-Rong, where the pirates think the treasure is hidden, whereas Dong King has his employee, Fyah, attempt to shut the restaurant down.
- If they joined forces and worked with Dong King, then the Dong King Team's members would be Fyah, Casano, Edward, Jin and Rhoderi, and the pirates as new members.
- They are also one of the several Pucca: Love Recipe characters to not interact with other characters after Yong, Mija, Tenacious, Joe, Jin and Rhoderi, Casano, Edward (though he might be alive), and The Chefs of Goh-Rong.
- It is unknown if they are friends with Pucca, Garu, Ching, and Abyo or not . (As seen in Garu in Jail)
- Despite being secondary antagonists of Pucca: Love Recipe, they only appear in 6 episodes, 9 if you count The Captain.
- Nine for Captain, six for Bogo, seven for Punch, and two for Monk.
- They appear in the Korea Dub intro in the last 13 episodes of Pucca: Love Recipe.
- This marks their new appearance in Pucca: Love Recipe. This also marks them as new characters onwards after they appeared in some commercials, shorts, and concept art.
- Speaking of concept art, a piece of concept art from 2012 showed different characters such as Pucca, Garu, Ching, Abyo, Uncle Dumpling, Ho, Bruce, Ssoso Santa, and of course, The Captain, Punch, three unseen pirates. Their design was then changed, with Captain's clothing being a jade green color and having a golden belt, and Punch having a black shirt and red pants, accompanied by a white belt.
- Captain and Bogo are the only members to know and say Pucca's name in Winter in Sooga Island.
- The voices of the pirates are Dave Ward, Kirk Thornton, Tony Azzolino, Michael Sorich.
- They serve as the overarching antagonists of part 1 of Pucca: Love Recipe, that being Punch and Monk, and the main antagonists of part 2, taking the role of Dong King.
- In different merchandise, Captain was shown with a normal belt and holding bags of money, and Monk was shown without sleeves. But in Pucca: Love Recipe, Captain has golden belt, as pirates would usually wear, and Monk does have sleeves.
