Striking Out is the second segment of the ninth episode of the second season and the thirty-fifth overall episode of the Pucca television series. It first aired on June 26, 2008.

Synopsis[]

After messing up Tobe’s plan to destroy Garu, Tobe’s ninjas get fired and go look for jobs.

Plot[]

Tobe is excited about the creation of his latest weapon: a giant robot of himself which he'll use to defeat Garu. One of his ninjas is busy constructing it while the rest are using their skills on housework around the base. While Tobe basks in his command of them, one wanders over asking what he'd like to do with a bucket of bolts, the very ones meant for the robot. The constructing ninja has instead been using toothpaste to stick it together. Predictably, the robot falls apart and its head rolls into the base, knocking Tobe and his minions out before catching fire. With his home in ruins, the enraged Tobe has had enough of their idiocy and fires the group.

The masterless ninjas go to Sooga Village, offering themselves for hire and payment by noodles. Garu comes running through with Pucca chasing him on her scooter. They are forced to stop at a streetlight and while Garu escapes once it turns green, the ninjas surround Pucca to clean her windshield without permission and beg for small change. Annoyed, she throws them all away and waits for the next greenlight to take off after Garu again.

Since the attempts at self-employment failed, the ninjas decide what they truly need is a new master. Going to the Goh-Rong, they offer their services to the chefs who admit they'd like a few good waiters when compared to Dada's clumsiness. They give their new servers bowls of noodles which they take out to the dinning room of hungry patrons. When they return to the kitchen with the emptied bowls, they are praised by the chefs who give them more helpings. However the ninjas reveal that they were actually eating the food themselves, not serving it, and are booted from the establishment. They complain that Tobe never kicked them out for making mistakes, though quickly remember that he did in fact kick them out for their mistakes.

Over with the dark ninja himself, he is running interviews for a new ninja gang, with his first applicant being Dada. Tobe asks if he will obey his every command and when Dada admits there are a few things he can't do, Tobe rejects him. The next applicant is a zombie that, when admitting he has no brain, Tobe takes this as a personal insult and rejects him, too. He works his way through the line until getting to Santa, not pleased that he rejects to work on December 24th (being his busiest time) and throws him away for "moonlighting". Santa declares him naughty which is why he never gets presents, but this confuses Tobe as he always gets gifts for Christmas he reminisces about the thoughtful presents his ninjas would get for him, like a sweater with Garu's face crossed out, and declares them all sweet.

At the police station, Officer Bruce is trying to have his lunch, though the Cat Clan snatch it from him. He catches them with a net-launcher and writes them a citation. The ejected ninja minions see this and believe he could be the new master they were searching for. They offer him their service and he makes them take an oath to law and peace, then leaves them to put the cat clan in their cell. While removing the net, they accidentally let them get away and use the police car to chase them, almost hitting Bruce.

The ninjas-turned-officers chase the Cat Clan through Sooga village, though bicker about who gets to use the loudspeaker and start causing havoc with the runaway vehicle. They make their way back to the station and crash the patrol car right into the building, destroying it and sending Bruce flying. They all come crashing down before the wreckage and Bruce is furious.

Tobe has reconstructed his ninja base, proud of his own efforts but wishing he'd had someone else to build it for him. As he tearfully looks at a photo of his ninjas, he realizes he needs them back and goes off to find them.

At this same moment, the ninjas are in the woods, still running from Bruce. They declare that Tobe never got angry when they made mistakes but again remember that yes, he did. They wander upon Garu training against ninja dummies and, impressed with his skills, ask him to be their new master. However, he mistakes it for an attack and beats them up, launching them through the air until they land in a pile. They declares that Tobe never attacked them and though once again they concede that he did, they still say they missed hi, And Tobe, who they had landed on top of, admits he missed them as well. He needs them to help him destroy Garu and can’t picture a world where he can’t get rid of his enemy. The ninjas comfort each other over this sentimental moment and Garu, a witness to this talk about his own demise, is uncertain.

The ninjas take note of him and ready to launch an attack, only for Pucca to drive through and scoop the pig-tailed boy into a kiss. Tobe's group continue to threaten him but the displeased Pucca yanks up a tree and whacks them, sending them crashing into the rebuild ninja fortress. It crumbles down on them and Tobe, back to his old ways, commands they clean up the mess.
