Synopsis[]
Deepsea Diver Garu attracts the attention of Mermaid Pucca, than must save her mervillage from Doga's wicked clutches.
Plot[]
In an alternate universe, Abyo stands on a little tugboat, supplying air to Diver Garu who is searching the sea for "pearls of wisdom". This includes tapping on giant clams and hearing their odd advice, then collecting their pearls. A passing mermaid, Pucca, spies him doing this and immediately falls in love with him. In her haste to kiss him, she removes his diving helmet and as he begins to choke, she whisks him away to find someone to help. Abyo retrieves Garu's empty helmet, confused by where his friend could have gone, when his boat is suddenly struck by a much larger vessel.
Pucca has brought Garu to her underwater village where Merking Soo explains that the boy needs oxygen. He provides a bubble for the ninja to breath with and tells Pucca she cannot keep him. As they have this conversation, none notice a net swooping through the kingdom and collecting up all the other merfolk. The net is pulled to the surface and Abyo is also caught up in it, while several sharks latch on trying to get at the merfolk. The net is hauled right up tot eh ship that hit Abyo and Doga is reveals to be behind this, needing merscales for her magic potions. Mermaid Ching begs the "handsome" Abyo to save her people and he gladly agrees, ready to do combat. Doga counters by transforming the sharks into henchmen that, after intimidating Abyo, throw him and the merfolk into the ship's hull.
Soo, Pucca, and Garu wonder where everyone has disappeared to. Pucca takes note of the boat overhead and while she is distracted, Garu swims away back to the surface. He finds the wreckage of his boat and hearing Abyo's calls for help, swims straight for Doga's ship.
Within the ship's hull, Doga's shark-men are putting the Merfolk and Abyo through a machine that cans them like sardines. Garu hops onto the deck and battles again the shark-men, though Pucca insists on jumping up and kissing him through the fight. Despite this distraction, he beats them all back into the water where they turn back into a full sharks. Abyo has fought his way out of his sardine can and freed the other merfolk, to Ching's gratitude. Feeling confident with himself, he jumps up on deck to try and aid Garu, only for Doga to transform him into an octopus.
Garu battles Doga head on -- with some help from Pucca-- and wears her done until she runs out of magic. At this, she unleashes her other great catch: a giant squid which captures Garu. Pucca in enraged by this and plows herself right through the ship, ripping a hole into the bottom. The impact knocks the kraken back into the ocean and frees the merfolk, while the ship sinks. Doga is left to swim away from her own shark army.
Back in the merkingdom, Abyo finds he likes his new octopus form and the Kung Fu moves he can use it for. Master Soo once again gives Garu an air bubble, plus the thanks of the kingdom for saving them. But while Pucca still wants to keep him in the underwater kingdom with her, Soo reiterates it is not a possibility. Instead, he offers a way that she might stay on land with him.
Up on land, Garu is once again in a diving suit but now he, Pucca, and Abyo are miniaturized within an aquarium. Unfortunately, this aquarium happens to be in a seafood restaurant and as one customer orders "the octopus", Abyo must flee from Dada's attempts to catch him. Pucca pays no attention to his plight as she continues to kiss Garu through his suit, perfectly content.
