Plot[]
At Chang's dojo, the kids are moving a big box for their teacher who is staring at a briar growing in the yard. He declares this a sign of the thorn monster awakening, to their confusion. The monster is a giant sentient briar plant that in time will grow up over the dojo, forcing them to shut down. The last time it attacked, Chang discovered that he could feed it special chi-dumplings which would put it back to sleep. He turns to the box that contained the dumplings but is horrified to find the kids were sitting on it to hear his story. When they open the lid, the dumplings are smooshed, unable to appease the thorn monster.
They rush to the chefs who admit they can't revive the dumplings with their skills. What they really need is a shooting star from the Yummy Star, with the power to transform ruined food into the best dish ever. Watching the Yummy Star, they see it send out a shooting star and the kids run to find it.
Over at Tobe's treehouse base, everyone is sleeping until the light from the star awakens Tobe. Seeing it coming right for their house, he rouses everyone and runs off, only to be hit by it anyway.
In the morning, he is found by Pucca and friends who notice Tobe's clothes have become golden with stardust. He freaks out from seeing Garu and as he flails about, gets stardust over a nearby sweet potato plant, turning it golden too. The kids each take a bite and are amazing by it, even Tobe, now seeing the power of the Yummy Star's dust. The kids ask him to come with them to the dojo and help revive their dumplings but the golden ninja sees this as his opportunity to get back at Garu. He agrees to help the kids but only after they do him a few favors, especially Garu. With little choice, they agree for the sake of their school.
Tobe's favors includes doing his chores. Ching and Pucca must clean bed mats that haven't been dusted in ten years while Abyo must chop ten years' worth of firewood. As for Garu, Tobe challenges him to several petty competitions and uses cheating to win them all, gloating victory over the pig-tailed boy who can't properly fight back. Pucca, who has enough of his bullying, knocks him over and while Tobe threatens not to help them for this, Abyo is also ready to rebel. Ching notices that after the hit, some of the dust rubbed off from Tobe's clothes, meaning they can take if from him by force. Tobe calls his ninjas to defend him, but the kids easily take them down.
At the dojo, the chefs and Chang see how much the thorn monster has grown over the building. They try feeding it regular dumplings but this just makes it grown more. They really do need Chan's chi dumplings and the yummy star dust.
Tobe has run away from the battle, but Garu finds him easily. They sword fight until Garu disarms the golden ninja, kicking him away and stealing some of his star dust. Angered, Tobe throws dust into his eyes as a distraction and gets a solid hit on his enemy. Pucca finds them at this point and moves in to defend Garu. She finds a sweet potato sprout and rips it out of the ground to reveal its gigantic size (influenced by the yummy star dust). With it, she squashes Tobe into the ground, defeating him and knocking off all the star dust from his clothes. It's more than enough for what they need.
They rush the dust back to the dojo and sprinkle it on Chang's dumplings which are instantly revived. He feeds the chi dumplings to the thorn monster, appeasing it and sending it back to sleep which saves their school. Chang thanks the kids greatly for their help but Pucca stelas one of his remaining dumplings to feed to Garu. The boy is delighted by the yummy taste and Pucca takes advantage of the distraction to kiss him. He doesn't even mind.
