Tame That Toon is the first segment from the thirteenth episode of the second season, and the thirty-ninth overall episode of the television show Pucca. It first aired on August 11, 2008.

Synopsis[]

Jealous of Pucca getting constant attention, Ring Ring travels back in time to the past and erases Garu from history.

Plot[]

Ring Ring arrives at the Goh-Rong Restaurant trying to show her new hairstyle to everyone, but they ignore her, instead noticing Pucca as she exits the kitchen and serves noodle bowls, with Ching complimenting her hair. This outrages Ring Ring to the point that her Yang side appears, leaving the restaurant in chaos.

To cool off, Ring Ring goes to the salon, saying she wants a new look that is so amazing, people will forget about Pucca. Santa suggests that she uses a new device that “takes years off of her”. Ring Ring accepts the suggestion and, saying the more years taken off the better, pulls the lever all the way down, causing her to transport through another universe. In the present, a pile of ash is sitting at the seat of the device, which Santa sees and (freaking out at the sight) vacuums up.

Ring Ring accidentally goes back in time to the 1920's universe, which is entirely black and white. The characters look more old-fashioned. In the Goh-Rong Restaurant, she finally gets the attention she wants from people until Toon Pucca comes in the scene, chasing Toon Garu, turning the people’s attention to her. A younger Master Soo comments on how this can’t be good. Asking who she is, Toon Ring Ring reveals herself and answers her question. The people then start singing "Sweet Pucca", a song admiring Pucca. Ring Ring and Toon Ring Ring, in rebuttal, sing about how much they hate Pucca, with Ring Ring becoming fed up with Pucca due to the fact that no matter where she goes, Pucca always gets the attention. Seeing a Toon Pencil hopping by, Ring Ring grabs it and, as Toon Pucca and Toon Garu run by, accidentally erases Toon Garu. Ring Ring takes the opportunity to mock Toon Pucca about it, causing her to loudly burst into tears.

In the present time, Pucca chases Garu and corners him. As she tries to kiss him, he suddenly disappears. Confused, she tries asking Ching and Abyo, but they don't even know who Garu is. Tobe, left without a sworn enemy, decides to seek vengeance on Dada, who is sweeping outside the Goh-Rong Restaurant. He promptly attacks him despite Dada having done nothing to Tobe.

Later, in her room, Pucca sees her pictures of Garu disappear, as well as her doll. She visits Master Soo at his palace, who reveals that Garu disappeared a long time ago because of Ring Ring. Pucca then goes to the same salon where Ring Ring went to and forces Santa to transport her to the 1920's universe.

Pucca confronts Ring Ring and her Toon counterpart, but becomes overwhelmed by the duo. Toon Abyo gives her a can of noodles to help her gain strength and defeat the two Ring Rings. Despite the victory, the two Ring Rings state that Garu is still gone. This gives Pucca the idea to jump out of the scene, showing that it is running on a reel, and rewinds the reel back to just before Toon Garu was erased. Before Ring Ring runs to Toon Garu, Pucca steps in and whacks her back to the present with the pencil, messing with the reel, which is playing on a camera. This also causes Pucca to come back to the present. Pucca rewinds the reel back. Garu is seen sitting at the movie theater, with Pucca kissing his face. As Garu tries to get away, the two proceed to unintentionally reenact the same moves as Toon Garu and Toon Pucca on the movie screen.

Toon Abyo and Toon Ching sing a classic 30's cartoon outro as the curtains close, ending the episode.

Allusions[]

  • Toon Ring Ring’s appearance is similar to Betty Boop, but her personality is entirely different.
  • Also, Abyo is based off of Popeye and Ching is based off of Olive Oyl.
  • The Toon Bruces are dressed like one of the Keystone Kops.
  • Toon Garu and Toon Pucca seem to be allusions of the original Mickey and Minnie Mouse, respectively.

Trivia[]

  • This is Ring Ring’s last major role in the Pucca Jetix series.
    • It is also Tobe's last appearance within the Jetix series, despite making a brief cameo.
  • The Salon which Ring Ring goes to is called 理髪阮, which translates from Chinese to "hair barber".
  • Among all the characters that are in this episode, the toon version of Tobe doesn't appear.
  • The toonverse seems to be chronologically linked to Pucca's world, as any of the toon's versions are erased, the present counterparts will be erased too.
    • This is also supported by Master Soo still being able to remember Garu despite having been erased from existence in the past.
